What does it mean to you to be daring, take a risk and make it an adventure?
To me it means if I do something that’s out of my usual comfort zone I can turn it into an adventure just because it’s something new.
Too many people are not necessarily happy with where they are in life and/or business but because it’s comfortable they are willing to stay in that place rather than take a risk and make a change.
I’ve learned over the years that it’s exciting to make changes and do something I’ve never done before! That whatever happens, whether the outcome is what I wanted or not, I succeeded just because I was willing to overcome any fear I might have had and I took the risk anyway.
I know the last couple of years have brought many changes in people’s lives and also lots of fear. However we are now coming close to the end of 2021 and we have only six weeks until we move into a brand new year.
As you move forward, are you going to allow fear to stop you in your tracks? What changes are you going to make in 2022 that could have a positive impact on your whole life?
When was the last time you did something that you perceived as a risk? Whether in business or your personal life what is it that you would love to do but haven’t because you are allowing fear to stand in your way?
I turned 80 this year and consider myself extremely fortunate to have reached this age and still be healthy and have enough energy to work, although I now work way less hours.
I’ve learned many things throughout the years, two or three that really changed my life.
I still hear people wanting to change this, which is one of the first things I learned to do.
What is it? Worrying about what other people think and being concerned that something I said might make them not think well of me! It took quite a lot of work to change this behavior and thinking, a lot of which I did with hypnosis which made it much easier. Letting go of that worry really changed me and my life.
The second thing I changed was to stop allowing fear and doubt to sabotage me. For example: I was someone who in a group, would not ask a question in case it made me look silly. These days I ask as many questions as I want.
I always thought of myself as an introvert however everyone else thought I was an extrovert so that’s what I allowed people to think. However during The Pandemic I came to realize that I was definitely an introvert.
I have no problem having a conversation with people, especially 1-1 but I don’t like small talk which is why I prefer to be around people I know instead of at business events where I know few people. Zoom has actually been a god-send to me in many ways, although now I think it’s time to get back to connecting with people in person.
I used to allow fear to sabotage me in so many ways and yet I also didn’t allow it to get in my way at certain times in my life. One of which was when I decided after a year of training to be a clinical hypnotherapist, to open a private practice. We often find courage when we want something badly enough. I am very grateful, that I was able to build a successful practice and coaching business.
Today, I know that if I feel fear about anything, I look at the feeling as excitement about doing something new and different.
One of my mentors asked me a question, one that I’ve used with my own clients and that I’ve never forgotten.
If you do something you’re afraid of what’s the worst that can happen? Once you get that question out of the way you can go full steam ahead.
You might make mistakes and that’s OK, mistakes can be turned around whatever it is you don’t have to allow it to sabotage you.
‘Til Next time
Have an adventurous week
