How about being happy instead of stressed. It’s been a very challenging year for everyone but that doesn’t mean you can’t have positive days. I’m sure that like most of us, you’ve had quite a bit of tension and stress this year however continually focusing on the negative just creates more anxiety and stress. It’s time to de-stress.
There are a few simple techniques that I learned long ago that I use so that I don’t go into actually feeling stressed. Some can be done quickly without going anywhere and some need real downtime. I suggest you give yourself whatever you need so that you have and maintain positive energy.
- Take time out and go for a walk around the block or if you have a garden go
and sit awhile and just veg. Don’t start thinking just relax. If the weather doesn’t
allow for this, call a friend just for a chat for 10 minutes. Not to solve problems just
to see what she’s up too these days.
- When you have a negative thought it’s important to ‘break the state.’ So, if you’re
sitting get up and move away giving yourself a positive thought at the same time.
It might be just a few steps away from where you are standing but when you move
it breaks the subconscious pattern.
- Do some deep breathing, stop at least every 90 minutes and take in 6-12 deep breaths
through your nose and slowly exhale through your mouth.
- If your neck gets tense, do some shoulder shrugs.
If you make a habit of doing at least one of these on a regular basis throughout the day, it will stop you from getting emotionally stressed and will help to release endorphins that create positive energy. The more energy you have, the happier you will feel and the less you will want to procrastinate.
